Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body Mass Index (BMI) is measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women. Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a person's weight and height and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems.

BMI Classifications:

  • <19 = Underweight
  • 19-25 = Ideal BMI
  • 25-30 = Overweight
  • >30 = Obese
  • >35 = Severely Obese
  • >40 = Morbidly Obese
  • >50 = Super Obese

Feel free to use out BMI calculator on the left to find out your classification. Remember that BMI does not differentiate between body fat and muscle mass. Therefore, body builders and people who have a lot of muscle bulk will have a high BMI but are not overweight or obese.
